WHAT IS SHOCK WAVE TREATMENT (ESWT)?
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Treatment (ESWT) is a multidisciplinary device used in Osteopathic Medicine, Orthopedic Medicine, Sports Medicine, Urology, Dermatology, Aesthetics and Physiotherapy. Its main assets are fast pain relief and mobility restoration. Together with being a non-surgical therapy with no need for painkillers makes it an ideal treatment to speed up recovery and cure various indications causing acute or chronic pain.
The DUOLITH SD1 Shockwave Tower from STORZ Medical-Switzerland represents a state-of-the-art modular concept that combines radial and focused shock wave treatments, complementary vibration and vacuum therapies as well as the integrated high-resolution diagnostic ultrasound imaging in one system.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SHOCK WAVE TREATMENT (ESWT)?
Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) is a modern and highly effective treatment method: high-energy sound waves are introduced into the painful areas of the body. With this innovative treatment, pathological alterations of tendons, ligaments, capsules, muscles and bones can be eliminated systematically.
Shock waves can accelerate the healing process in the body, they stimulate metabolism and improve blood circulation; damaged tissue can regenerate and fully heal.
The beneficial effects of shock wave treatment are visible after only 1 or 2 sessions. The treatment eliminates pain and restores full mobility, thus improving the quality of life.
Evidence-Based Research and practices also proved that Extracorporeal Shock Wave Treatment (ESWT) opens up new applications in dermatology, wound healing, skin tightening, and anti-cellulite treatment. Being a non-invasive procedure, it can be specifically tailored to the requirements and wishes of each individual patient.
Dr. MALEK is the first one in the Middle East and the region to introduce this type of treatment in all its aspects, especially with the DUOLITH SD1 Ultra-Tower from STORZ MEDICAL.

WHAT ARE THE INDICATIONS AND NON-INDICATIONS FOR SHOCK WAVE TREATMENT (ESWT)?
Most common indications are Chronic Tendinopathies: calcific tendinopathy of the shoulder, lateral and medial epicondylopathy of the elbow (tennis elbow or golf elbow), greater trochanter pain syndrome, patellar tendinopathy, achilles tendinopathy and plantar fasciitis with or without heel spur.
Also, other common indications are found in Bone Pathologies: Delayed bone healing, Bone Non-Union (pseudarthrosis), Stress fracture, Avascular bone necrosis without articular derangement,
Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD) without articular derangement.
Indications are found in Skin Pathologies: Delayed or non-healing wounds, skin ulcers, non-circumferential burn wounds.
Erectile Dysfunction and Chronic Pelvic Pain are also common indications.
Aesthetics as in Cellulite treatment, skin tightening, wrinkles and many others are indications for shock wave treatment.
The main non-indications or contra-indications for radial and focused shock waves with low energy are malignant tumors in the treatment area and during pregnancy on the fetus in the treatment area.
Some non-indications are specific for focused shock waves with high energy like treatment on lung tissue in the treatment area, on malignant tumor in the treatment area (not as underlying disease), on Epiphyseal plate in the treatment area, on brain or spine in the treatment area, when we have severe coagulopathy and finally on the Fetus in the treatment area during pregnancy.
